I've been practicing Krav Maga at IKMF Toronto for just over a year - the changes in my abilities, my confidence, and my physical fitness have been amazing. Chris, the lead instructor is hugely knowledgeable, incredibly patient, kind and funny. He gives you as much time as you need to wrap your head around a new task or concept and is totally encouraging. The techniques I've learnt and the understanding of when to apply them has been great. The physical fitness aspect is almost accidental - it's not like going to the gym - but the workout is awesome - I've lost weight and built muscle without (almost) feeling it ;-) One of the greatest parts of the experience has been meeting excellent people - Chris' studio is full of really decent, personable and interesting people who enjoy helping each other out while working to achieve their goals - it is serious - but also seriously good fun. Finally, Chris is also welcoming of younger students - in fact he runs a separate Kid's program - The amazing confident that these younger students get from learning Krav Maga with Chris is amazing - he is changing lives.

I don't know if it would be fair for me to review this place since I didn't take a class. But I did want to write a note about it. I went to the location near Yonge & Eglinton, expecting to see a dojo like in the pictures on their website (bright, airy, clean). I was disappointed to see that it was in a basement, the walls were dirty & had holes in them. The mats on the floor were also worn looking & dirty. We talked to Chris about classes, etc & he was very knowledgable, nice & friendly. But I was put off by the condition of the practise room. It was one room and a small room for doing martial arts. Which is probably why there are holes in the walls. We watched a class for about 30 minutes with about 8 guys in it. They seemed kind of cramped. I'm giving them a middle rating since I didn't actually take a class. But for the location I would give them less. They might want to invest in new mats or at least take some time to thoroughly clean them & repair the holes in the wall & repaint the walls. Seeing this place didn't make me want to take a class there. Sorry to say that but just my opinion.

I highly recommend coming here if you're are curious about krav maga! Chris (trainer) is incredibly thorough and approachable and is able to work on with those who have been practising for years, as well as those brand new to krav. I recommend going with a friend and being ready to get out of your comfort zone. The classes provide exercise while being fun and engaging. More importantly than anything, they teach you real life defence skills that work. As a female, I feel confident and prepared to handle risky situations if they were to arise. Definitely check it out!!!

The best thing about Krav Maga is that I don't even notice I'm getting a workout until the sweat starts to drip. My mind is so engaged in focusing on learning the techniques, as opposed to grinding away on a treadmill, that it feels worth getting tired. Frankly, I am in awful shape but Chris always lets me take as many breaks as I need and I've never been made to feel inadequate for usually being in poorer shape than the rest of the class. He's motivational without being flat out mean. Highly recommended.

I come here almost every week. Chris is super nice and very helpful. I like it because it's a non discriminatory environment where any fitness level or age is welcome. You never feel judged which is the most important thing when going learning something new. Great place!
