I can`t speak for every program at Durham College, what I can say is that I and everyone I knew that attended the arts-based programs at Durham College enjoyed their time there and would whole-heartedly recommend the school. I attended the 3D Computer Animation course there, and it was a blast. I`ve attended various schools, and I find the main difference at this school is the company you keep. The teachers are humble, personable, kind, and respectful; they care about their students. After a few years out of the country, I came back and started working at the school`s radio station (Riot Radio); the experience among students proved to be very much the same. It`s a great school, because it houses great people. :) The only downside [from my experience], was that working under the SA was messy, with toxic office politics muddying up an otherwise pleasant atmosphere. Riot Radio, as a "service" was at best a joke, and at worst a nightmare to work for/with, exclusively because the "leaders" tasked in establishing a safe and positive learning environment were more concerned with their own egos and using their positions as a stepping stone for their personal portfolio.

I think the teachers in the Journalism program have a lot of potential to teach, but are just too lazy, undisciplined and disorganized to do their job. Spent too many hours being assigned "work periods" where we go all the way to school, wasting time, gas and money to get to class meanwhile the teacher just has you sitting there doing nothing. Other times you're waiting for someone to look at your work and you're lucky if your turn even comes, or you'll have to wait another week for feedback. They call this a "deadline business" but the teachers can't even meet their own deadlines. I've spent many days in class where I've taken away nothing from the day. The teachers don't manage their time properly. It takes forever to get your grades back, and the teachers in this program don't seem to take their jobs seriously. I hope the person in charge of the Journalism program sees this review and addresses this complaint with the staff. I know I speak for many students who who are facing the same disappointment and are expressing it among their peers.

Been OK so far. Some courses are in serious need of reworking. Like intro to programming, where the teacher apparently doesn't ever teach anything in class, and just throws videos at you instead. Parking is so expensive, you'd pay less by just paying parking fines as you got them and busses are so overcrowded that you can expect to wait for 2 or 3 of them before you can get on if you are coming in the early morning and leaving shortly after lunch. Many people here have also noted how horrible it is to find a job after graduating. This isn't exactly the colleges fault in many cases. The job market is total garbage for just about everything right now, and maybe you shouldn't have gone into women's studies or writing, or some BS course that offers nothing useful in finding a job people will want to pay you to do. Trust me, no one is gonna pay you to stand out in the street and yell about being oppressed because that's what you decided to pay 15 grand to "learn" about. Always keep in mind that the responsibility is on YOU to research the field you are going into and make sure that you recognize what you are getting yourself into and what repercussions this will have. You cant blame it all on DC.

As an incoming student with a disability, I had high hopes of attending this college until I learned of how DC (along with a few other colleges in Ontario) put financial penalties onto students with disabilities who require reduced course loads as form of accommodation. After reviewing Durham’s “Tuition Fee Policy for Students with Permanent Disabilities”, I was dismayed to learn if I decide to finish my diploma program in 3-4 years [instead of the usual 2 years] that on top of paying 2 years worth of full tuition, I would also be charged an additional $25 dollars for remaining courses plus $1,093.97 in college ancillary fees for EVERY YEAR it takes me to finish my program. This is hideously unfair. I successfully graduated from another diploma program at Centennial College back in 2004 and never encountered such a financially punishing policy. Back then, students with disabilities were viewed as “part-time students” and we never charged extra for finishing remaining courses nor were we required to pay additional ancillary fees after paying full program tuition. Due to this revelation, I declined enrollment at this corrupt college and in turned, saved myself from future exploitation/disillusionment. I agree with the previous reviewers here. Money [student profit] matters more to Durham College than fairness in terms of student success. I feel sorry for prospective and current students with disabilities who are currently not aware of this policy (they are being robbed). They deserve better.

The program I was in was okay, but what gets you guys -2 stars is the fact that you have that cancer of a franchise called Pizza Pizza in your institution. Pizza Pizza is the nastiest franchise on this planet. I remember buying a cheese pizza out of extreme hunger and it gave me an upset stomach the whole day; are they making their cheese with rubber and arsenic? Perhaps so. Boycott this dirty franchise and make pizza at home, it's less expensive and tastes a lot better. Pizza Pizza is such a disgusting franchise that I am at a loss for word in describing its perversities and shortcomings. P.S. DC Experience is a total waste and failure, stop wasting money and time on it and actually start offering students better facilities and more opt out freedoms instead of manufactured lies of happiness and enjoyment, lol. You can start by not forcefully charging us for facilities that most of us don't even use (riot radio, Insurance, Gym, Hockey rink [really?])

So boy where to start I have done two programs from this college and I have two completely different experience. Project management thumbs up. Great teachers, good courses, nice assignments where you can learn. most impotently very helpful teachers i loved them I am still in contact. Now lets talk about IT program that I have done. I wish I have never went to Durham college for this program. 1) They never teach us anything( Particle and lab are jock ) nothing is going on in class only talking about how much we know and how great we are. specially two professors I do not want to take names but they are husband and wife. Horrible teachers . 2) They give us assignments but until end of the semester no feedback, no grades nothing. You get all your grades for all the assignments at the end witch is horrible you do not know where are you standing in the program 3) That two professor I was talking about husband and wife .They are course coordinator. what a poor management we as students have remind them that hello it is week 8 already and we supposed to have assignment can we please have some work. half of the time they do not know what to give us. and very last moment they give us work without proper details and some time they even forget to create dropbox folders where we submit assignments 4) Most shocking part was they are externally resist in two semesters I have heard more than 5 times they" overseas students do not want to work hard " " Overseas students are lazy" funny part was out of 27 students 24 students were domestic students everyone else is from overseas. 5) Every time you have questions about software or assignments instead of explanation you only get one answer " This is post graduate course we will not teach you everything" No help at all overall poor knowledge professors with no teaching skills at all , resist attitudes, waste of money. they have changed 3 professors in between semester so no body have idea what the hell is going on If you wants good knowledge about networking , hacking do not go to Durham college IT professors are joke ( Specially those husband and wife) If you wants to learn about managements, HR skills etc Durham college is the place.

Durham College is, by far, the best educational institution that I have ever been a part of. My teachers were helpful and supportive every step of the way and encouraged me to do better than what I thought was my best. My program also helped set me up with a placement that further helped increase my chances at being employed and skill set! I love the campus, the people and the staff. All of my fellow classmates thoroughly enjoyed our courses and we all feel prepared for working in our industry. Thank you, Durham College! I would recommend this school to anyone who wants to be part of something amazing!

I attended this college end of Feb till the end of April 2016, doing one of the corporate programs. The program was taught by Don, Tom, and Mike. Their teaching skills were amazing, I have never come across anything at this level. If you are ever taking a trucking course I would highly recommend this college as the experience you will have will be unforgettable. Thank you Don, Tom, Mike and the ladies at the corporate services.

Hello Owner, I'm planning to take Post Graduate Diploma in Information Security and Systems. I want to know about practicals which help students in getting better job after course completion. How is the Co-op and placement cell? because in my country Practical is a joke and colleges focus more on theory than practical. So in DC same should not be the case I hope.

Great school, terrible administration. They make paying fees and tuition very frustrating and stressful. I have tried to reach to many staff for support and guidance but they are very unhelpful and often just respond to emails with a generic reply. They are very rude and when every I look for assistance they always speak to me like I'm an idiot. I wish they had a better administration system, more welcoming and friendly and easily assessable.

Very disrespectful and poorly managed school. The instructors are very unprofessional and I have fund them on numerous occasions giving me attitude and speaking to me in an incredibly condescending manner. They lack any sort of communication skills, and will always point the finger at you if something goes wrong. I live 45 minutes away from the school and had to use my PRESTO money to arrive at class on 8AM. I would drive, but the school rush hour is always insane because the school can’t manage anything and they’re parking charges are ridiculous (if they really cared about student debt why are they trying to make us poor with parking fees… for a school in Oshawa?) I waited another 45 minutes for one of my instructors to show up (after dragging myself out of bed from a stomach flu), and realized he probably wasn’t showing up so I went home frustrated that I wasn’t sent an e-mail or notification that class was canceled. The next day I found through another class he decided to hold the class (that he missed… not me!) three hours later in another one of his classes that I am not enrolled in. Rather than sending me an e-mail, or using the Durham College Connect website, he completely ignored me entirely and forced me to miss a day of learning, that I am paying for! He then proceeded to tell the people that did show up (for what they thought would be their regular scheduled class) that he was disappointed that other people didn’t show up! How am I supposed to show up to a class that I am not registered in, or know where is located in the school building? I confronted the instructor the next time I saw him but it was as though he was playing the blame game. He said I should have contacted the school department and blamed me for not coming to class… even though I did, it was him who didn’t show up. I couldn’t have even gone anyways because I had another class scheduled at that time. These types of issues are always happening. I am so upset and frustrated that I am paying $4000 a year just to have my time and respect abused. We don’t even have lessons or classroom learning. The closest thing to that is having a teacher stand in front of us and read a paper, without adding or embellishing to it at all. (I am capable of reading…. why am I spending $4000 to have you stand in front of me and just read?) The Student Association is also corrupted and full of problems. (We didn’t even get a Frosh Week or Concert because they were too concerned over political money problems… even though our tuition is going to pay for these events that don’t happen). If you’re looking for a place to be a part of clubs and groups this is not the school for you. I don’t even know if we have clubs here, I never hear anything about it. Overall I am extremely disappointed in this school. I am writing this as a student who wants potential students to really think carefully about deciding to go here. The location may be convenient for some, but the actual learning and student life is non-existent. You’re basically just paying for a piece of paper with no learnings to go with it.
